WASHINGTON ? The White House says congressional Republicans are using the investigation into a bankrupt solar energy company as a partisan "political football."
Spokesman Jay Carney says GOP lawmakers have "cherry-picked" certain documents trying to create controversy over a decision-making process that the White House insists involved no political influence.
Carney's comments follow a House committee's release of emails Wednesday showing that a major donor to President Barack Obama discussed the company, Solyndra, with White House officials.
The administration has contended that the donor, George Kaiser, never discussed the company with the White House.
Solyndra was the first renewable energy company to receive a federal loan under the 2009 stimulus law. The company declared bankruptcy in September, leaving taxpayers on the hook for more than a half-billion dollars.

JERUSALEM ? Israel's Supreme Court is to decide whether former President Moshe Katsav will be going to prison for raping a former employee.
Katsav was convicted in December and was scheduled to begin his sentence in May. But the court let him stay out of prison pending the appeal.
The ruling is expected later Thursday. The former president has no other legal recourse.
Katsav was found guilty of raping an employee when he was a Cabinet minister in 1998 and of sexual harassing of two other women when he was president from 2000 to 2007.
He was sentenced in March, becoming the country's highest ranking official ever ordered to prison.
The 65-year-old Katsav has denied the charges and claims he is being persecuted by political enemies.

LOS ANGELES ? Attention little monsters: A dress worn by Lady Gaga is hitting the auction block.
The sculptural black dress the pop star wore on the cover of Madame Figaro magazine in May of this year is expected to fetch more than $10,000 at Julien's Auctions' rock `n' roll sale in December.
Designer Irina Shaposhnikova said she's honored to have created a gown for Gaga.
"Lady Gaga is one of the most stylish and inspirational persons of this century," the designer said. "She looks amazing in this dress!"
The prop gun Gaga fired in the video for "Born This Way" earlier this year is also available. It's expected to sell for at least $6,000, said Julien's Auctions' president Darren Julien.
Other sale highlights include a sketch John Lennon drew of himself and Yoko Ono during their 1969 "bed-in," which could collect more than $50,000, and costumes he and Paul McCartney wore in the film "Help." Also available: A signed Gretch guitar from Bono's personal collection, stage-worn costumes from Mick Jagger and Kurt Cobain, and Cyndi Lauper's dress from the "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" video.
Bids will be accepted in person, online and by phone for the auction, which begins Dec. 1. The lots will also be on view for a free exhibition at Julien's Auctions beginning Nov. 21.

The first Grand Theft Auto 5 trailer has arrived. Is GTA headed back to the West Coast??
On Wednesday, Rockstar published the first official trailer for Grand Theft Auto 5, the follow-up to the 2008 smash hit Grand Theft Auto 4. According to a recent report from Gamasutra, publisher Take-Two has sold an astonishing?114 million Grand Theft Auto games since the series debuted, in 1997. Grand Theft Auto 5 should hoist those sales figures considerably higher. So how does the new game look??
Skip to next paragraphWell, by GTA standards, this trailer is pretty tame. It opens in a sun-splashed coastal city, where runners jug down a boardwalk, a couple strolls along a beach, and a pair of women practice yoga on their back porch. At first, we are a long way?from the blood-splattered, high-octane hijinks that made GTA such a controversial franchise. But after a minute or so of scenery, the obligatory action arrives?? a heist in progress, the fiery wreck of a car, a helicopter chase. We can safely assume GTA 5 will keep the series's Mature rating.
So what does the GTA 5 trailer tell us about the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series? Well, for one, it seems to confirm an earlier report, from the team at Kotaku, that GTA will be set in a heavily-modified, alternate-world version of Los Angeles. (In that same report, Kotaku's Stephen Totilo predicted that GTA 5?"will feature more than just one playable character.")?
Meanwhile, in an exhaustive analysis at CVG,?Tamoor Hussain speculates that everything in the trailer, down to the digital signage, could be of great import. "During a panning shot we can see two small signs for 'Muscle Sands' and 'Pump Buddy', which may be an indication that players will be able to pump iron like they did in the original San Andreas," Hussain writes. "Of course this would also mean that other customization features such as gaining weight could return."
At the Guardian, Keith Stuart spots a Hollywood-style "Vinewood" sign ? which appeared in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas???and suggests that RockStar could be planning some sort of call-back to the environments of yore. And as for new vehicles, well, "the private jet scorching through at the end hints that we'll be able to pilot aircraft again," Stuart writes.?
