The difficult thing about being an anxiety sufferer is that more often than not, it is just as hard learning how to cure anxiety as it is to realize that you are actually a sufferer of the condition itself. Take me for example, it took me at least twelve years before I was able to realize that I was being crippled by anxiety. Even though it was obvious to those around me, it was extremely hard for me to understand this, as I truly believed that how I felt was completely normal. This was not the case.
The worst problem of the lot here is that most sufferers are under the impression that what they are experiencing is completely normal, that the feelings that they are experienving are completely normal and the same as what many others feel on a day to day basis. This is deadly, as this can often cause mental illnesses to go un-diagnosed for a very long time, resulting in the condition becoming much harder to overcome and deal with. Not only that, but it can make it even harder in the long run for sufferers to come to the realization that they are indeed suffering from a condition that needs treating.
Anxiety, much like panic attacks, is caused by feelings and thoughts. Over time, we become less and less aware of what thoughts cause our feelings of anxiety or panic, until many years down the track when it becomes extremely hard to identify the origins of your anxiety or panic attacks. This is where it gets even harder to treat anxiety, as it is one challenge for sufferers to realize that they have a condition, but to identify within themselves the origins of their condition is even harder.
The key lesson here on how to cure anxiety sounds very simple, but in practice, it is not. Step one is to realize that you are a sufferer, not because you are convinced of it by others, but because you realize that you have a problem and you accept that you have a problem. Step two is to understand the feelings that cause your feelings of anxiety, and accept that they are not capable of hurting you, nor should you feel threatened by them. This is the hardest part of curing anxiety, as these thoughts are often extremely hard to face.
To conclude, I will mention that Anxiety is a serious condition. Whilst there are groups out there that can help you get through this, it is always a very wise choice to speak to your doctor about the possible treatments that are available. Medications may be a viable choice for you, especially in order to help you face the short term challenges that lead to a long term cure. Many people do beat panic and anxiety without the need to resort to medication however. It is all a matter of how you approach your condition, how capable you are of taking ownership of the situation, and how dedicated you are to be well.
